Half Of Murphy's
'A Half of Murphy's' consists of Noeleen and Alex who are half of the ceilidh band 'Murphy's Lore'. In the band, Noeleen and Alex are the rhythm section, providing a driving force behind the tune players and Noeleen's smooth, clear vocals provide the core of the band's songs. They have been performing regularly as a duo for several years.
Over the years they have appeared at Wessex, Wimborne, Trowbridge, Purbeck Valley and Bridport Folk Festivals. They are often seen at Milford Folk Club (their favourite local) Ringwood Folk Club and when able, do a stint at Wimborne Folk Club. During 2017 they became co- hosts with Mick Ryan, Kitty Vernon and Derek Burgess of The Branksome Folk Session at The Branksome Railway Pub, Poole which aims to run weekly sessions for singers and tunesmiths with once a month guest singers through September to April Noeleen plays guitar, whistle, and bodhran but is best known for her vocal abilities, drawing on her Irish heritage to sing songs learnt as a child at the knee of her accordion playing father, whilst Alex accompanies her on guitar, tenor guitar, some backing vocals and occasionally the mandolin, having returned to his folk roots after a brief fling with rock music in his youth! As a duo they perform mainly songs, some from the band's repertoire and some of their own choosing, mostly from the folk tradition and a few that have been 'folked up' or 'down' depending on how you look at it! www.murphyslore.co.uk |

John Butler
“Beautiful delivery and a slightly wonky brain. This is the best combination!” - a recent Woodlouse gig goer. John (aka The Woodlouse) and his small posse of also-small instruments (ukulele, acoustic and electric mandolins) bring heartfelt songs of life with a sense of the ridiculous. Life, love, the slipperiness of time, and zombies. |
John House and Allan Winter
John and Allan have been playing folk music together since 1970 and have developed a style of their own with musically intertwining guitars and vocals. They perform a mix of traditional and contemporary songs from around the UK with songs written by Archie Fisher, Anna Shannon and Karine Polwart to name a few |
Julie Felix
In 1964 Julie arrived in England after leaving California and hitchhiking through Europe with the guitar her father had given her
It didn't take long before Julie took the seat as the resident singer on the amazingly popular TV Show ‘The Frost Report’, and quickly became a household name in the UK Only four years after stepping on our shore, Julie is given her own TV series of 17 shows, the first colour series produced by the BBC, and is sold to virtually every country in the world. Guests include Spike Milligan, Richard Harris, Leonard Cohen, Dusty Springfield, Donovan, and Jimmy Page Throughout the 60s and 70s Julie’s career flourished, and her music reflected her heartfelt beliefs and her love affair with nature In the 1980s she moved back to California and took a break from the music world. An experience on a peace march in Central America in the late 80's inspired Julie to pick up her guitar and start singing again Two decades later of none stop activity, in October 2013 Julie was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla What began for little Julie as simple home entertainment, as her father and his friends played Mariachi music into the small hours of the morning, has actually been this remarkable woman’s vocation for half a century......and fortunately for us.....it still is! New Town Jack
New Town Jack is an acoustic folk singer songwriter likened to James Taylor/Paul Simon. Originally from Dorset but now hailing in Oxfordshire, his new output is Familiar Strangers, a record composed of 'stranger tales' – songs in the theme of fleeting encounters with people and their everlasting deep impact. Each song a story of their own, they all explore different characters and their own account of each episode. newtownjack.co.uk |
No Direction
No Direction are somewhat unique in their use of carefully arranged 4 part harmonies giving a new dimension to a wide variety of songs. Their sumptuous blend of unaccompanied harmonising is sometimes labelled Folkapella but this does not give true insight into the vast spread of their repertoire. From Folk, Pop, World and Jazz to name but a few of their styles, they will transport you to a world of delight as you sit back and soak it in. Great favourites around the local folk clubs and festivals, they are definitely one not to be missed. |
Pilgrims' Dream
Based in London, Pilgrims' Dream is the project of former Marine, Rob Ouseley. Influenced by bands such as Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, Ouseley recently released his first single ‘Ocean’, an ‘incredibly harmonious’ (Indie Pop-Ups) debut that 'really pops in all the right ways' (Ear To The Ground Music). It has seen him reach the finals of the prestigious American Songwriting Awards, and received international radio airplay. |
