Dorset Wrecks
Dorset Wrecks were formed in 2013 and our first gig happened when 5 of the initial 6 members sang on MV Freedom to support their charity at the Weymouth Barrel Rolling event in September 2013. Since then we have done more gigs every year with a total of 51 gigs in 2017. We now have 12 members and we rehearse weekly at the Old Town Hall, Weymouth. We have sung at both weddings and funerals, as well as at Camp Bestival and many other festivals including two inaugural festivals in 2017, the Lymington Sea Food Festival and the Bridport Folk Festival. In 2016 we recorded our first CD of sea shanties and songs of the sea entitled Bright Eyed ‘N’ Stiff, alluding to how to determine their freshness when buying fish. 2018 is already appearing to be another busy year and we are contemplating a second CD as our repertoire of songs of the sea and sea shanties is growing steadily, together with some original songs of our own. www.dorsetwrecks.co.uk |
Amy and The Raven
A duo made up of Amy Hopwood (vocals and baritone ukulele) and Tobias Raven (bass ukulele and guitar), Amy and The Raven play a mix of traditional and original folk. Expect plenty of songs about the sea, feisty women and dastardly murders, with some politics and humour thrown in! http://www.amyhopwood.co.uk |
Acorns
Acorns was formed when three ex members of the "Hearts of Oak", Tony Piper, Lead Tenor and Percussion, Ian Hudson, Vocals, Guitar and Banjo, and Dev Deverell, Vocals, Whistle and Guitar, got back together with the view to expand the original idea and incorporate additional voices and instruments. The "Hearts" were a highly successful close harmony and Shanty group, and regular performers at the Tall ships and Folk Festival circuit and over the years, worked with some of the greats in the genre, from Stan Hugill to Johnny Collins, and Tom Lewis to Bob Webb. To name but a few....... Our decision to incorporate the Female range of vocals into our sound, resulted in press ganging Meg Piper and Su Scott-Goldstone to join us, and additional instruments and voices were added by enlisting Geoff Hocking, Vocals, Banjolin, Whistle and Guitar and Martyn Babb, Vocals, Squeeze Box, Harmonica. Formed in 2017, the seven piece line up, gives a warm, round wholesome sound, with rich vocal harmony lines and subtle instrumental backing. Our set list draws on influences from Cockersdale to Artisan, and Traditional Shanties and forbitters to humorous ditties and our audiences are encouraged to join in and add to our rousing choruses. |
